I have been an Elton fan since I was about 6 years old. I can remember listening to my uncle's EJ records over and over. Of course, back then, everything my uncle did was really cool, so it is his fault I got addicted. :)
I guess I am about Elton the way some folks are about Elvis. My friends say I am a walking Elton encyclopedia. I just love his music, and I find it refreshing to see someone who came out of a self-conscious childhood (as mine was) and has done such great things.
We saw him in Jackson, MS, in 1999 on the Solo Tour, and the bass was so cranked up in the piano that the floor of the coliseum was vibrating. It was awesome. I was right up next to the stage (actually squashed against it..LOL), holding my ELTON 1 license plate up. This was my actual car tag at one time. He came straight toward me, complimented me on my "nice shirt" (I had my loud yellow Watford Football Club shirt on), and he grabbed my hand and held it steady while he signed the tag. I swear, I didnt wash it for a week!
He was with the band in this latest concert we went to at Biloxi, MS, and it would have been great if the security people wouldn't have been so nasty. I will never go to another concert in Biloxi again! Couldn't get anywhere near the stage , which was a big disappointment. The concert was still fantastic, though.
I am often asked what my favorite song or album of his is, and it is hard for me to pin down, because I like them all. It is easier to divide my favorites into decades. If I had to pick one song from the 70s, it would have to be "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", and if I had to pick one album from the 70s, I suppose it would be "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy." "Blue Moves" is a very close second. For the 80s, my favorite song is "Elton's Song" from "The Fox" (which is my favorite 80s album). From the 90s, I like the remake of "Live Like Horses" on "Made in England". Of course, for the current decade, I like "Mansfield" and "Songs From the West Coast". I can't possibly narrow it down any more than that!
In March 2003, I had a huge Union Jack tattoed on my back in honor of Sir Elton, and I will post pics of it here soon!!
